There are days when I feel down. During those times I like to get some wisdom from other people about life and about happiness. They bring me back on track, as they put things into perspective and help me come back to my roots.
Happiness is the secret to all beauty. There is no beauty without happiness.Christian Dior
I love this one, because I think it is so true. Once we have found what makes us happy and learned to naturally implement that into our lives, we become more calm, relaxed, and we smile more, as we enjoy ourselves. This makes a happy person. Someone who is comfortable where they are and have learned to enjoy life the way it is, that’s beauty to me. I love seeing and being around people like that.
We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather recognizing and appreciating what we do have.Fredrick Koenig
It’s all about gratitude and appreciating what we have right now. When we think too much about what we are lacking or worry about the future too much, we are not present in the moment. Until you learn to just be with a regular gratitude practice, happiness will evade you to some extent. Yet it is that easy to bring happiness to you now.
Happiness depends on what you can give, not on what you can get.Swami Chinmayananda
I remember a time when I though that everyone just used me because I was so nice. They would come to be with their problems, which is why they wanted to spend time with me. Yet I always felt that this wasn’t really balanced, as I wasn’t able to talk to them. So I always thought that I gave more than I received. I never thought about how much it gave me to know that I was able to help a person. Over the years I learned that this is a scale that does not have to be equally balanced at all. Either you decide to give and you do it with all your heart or you don’t do it. So I decided for myself that I enjoy listening to people and helping them. I don’t have to get anything back in return, as it is enough for me to know I was able to give. In my life, I am lucky in so many beautiful ways that I don’t mind giving and helping when the opportunity comes.
As you get older you find out that true happiness is not how much you make or how many degrees you have or how big your house is or how fancy your car is. It’s finding peace and joy and a calmness in your life that will soon become the most important thing to you. Your family are what matters to you, love is what matters to you. Things that are of quality, not quantity.Unknown Author
I had to learn this. And I did learn this the hard way in my mid twenties. However, I couldn’t be more grateful for that lesson. Since then I have been actively searching for what it is that makes me happy. I try to bring many things into my life that bring joy. I spend time with the people I love. I have learned to let go of material things that only clutter up my space. And I have learned to appreciate the limited amount of time we have available. I feel that once you have learned this lesson, true happiness is not far.
I’m beginning to recognize that real happiness isn’t something large and looming on the horizon ahead but something small, numerous and already here. The smile of someone you love. A decent breakfast. The warm sunset. You little everyday joys all lined up in a row.
And last, but not least, happy moments are the small moments. Moments that we don’t see when we are busily rushing through life, let social networks take over or are too focused on a goal in the future. But the little everyday joys are truly what makes this a happy, extraordinary and beautiful life. So seek those out, calm down, slow down so they don’t pass you by.
